About the project:
From their earliest days, babies are fascinated by high-contrast visuals – it helps develop their vision and ability to focus. These double-sided animal cards are from the MyMa.cz online shop was created to support this natural stimulation and offer playful learning moments. Each card features a black-and-white side for newborns and a color side for slightly older infants.

 

Brief:
The goal was to design a set of ten familiar animals commonly found in Czech nature, like pigs, cows, dogs, or foxes. The illustrations had to be simple, high-contrast, and visually engaging for babies, with a strong emphasis on clarity and vibrant color on the reverse side.

 

Process:
I started by sketching various stylizations of a pig to explore the most child-friendly and visually appealing approach. Once the final style was selected, I created pencil sketches of all ten animals by hand.

The illustrations were then recreated as vectors in Clip Studio Paint – first as black-and-white versions with high contrast, and then as colored versions with minimal shading.

For the final print layout, we decided to alternate black and white backgrounds between the cards to keep the set visually balanced and stimulating.

 

This thoughtful blend of contrast, color, and simplicity resulted in cards that are not only educational but also joyful to explore for both babies and their parents.
